Full course description

This course provides a structured, competency-based introduction to Motivational Interviewing (MI), an evidence-informed communication approach used to support behaviour change through collaboration, empathy, and autonomy. Learners will explore the foundational principles, processes, and practical techniques of MI while developing the confidence to apply these skills across a variety of professional settings. Through reflective practice, simulated client interactions, and real-world scenarios, learners will strengthen their ability to recognize change talk, use reflective listening, ask meaningful open-ended questions, and guide conversations in a way that empowers individuals to move toward positive change. While the course introduces the formal framework of MI, learners are encouraged to adapt these skills authentically to fit their own communication style and workplace context.
